United Signals Willingness to Engage as Economic Talks Continue

The Teamsters National Negotiating Committee for United Airlines met last week in Denver for another round of negotiations.

The week began with the committee reviewing updated economic proposals with our economists. The committee continued to evaluate this proposal keeping the priorities members have made clear throughout this process in mind, including: industry leading pay, a shortened wage progression, and changes to CARP language.

While those discussions continued, the GSE subcommittee also reengaged with the company to continue working through outstanding issues.

Midweek, union leadership and our economists met directly with the company to continue discussions on economics. By the evening, United presented a wage proposal to the committee. This marked the first time in recent sessions that the company has put forward a proposal that gives reason to believe they are ready to engage in bargaining on a serious level. While there is still significant work to be done, this development shows movement after months of delay and signals that continued pressure from the membership is making a difference.

The committee will continue reviewing the company’s economic proposal and is prepared to keep moving forward when negotiations resume in Boston the week of March 2.
