UAL Technicians Dispatch Update - June 30, 2021
Aviation Professionals Day
PBGC Policy Change
This email is for our Sub-UAL members who participated in the United Airlines Pension that was taken over by the PBGC in May of 2005. I talked with a PBGC representative yesterday and as of June 1, 2021, the long-standing requirement for the employee to terminate or separate their employment with United to start receiving early age retirement benefits will be eliminated. You will want to be aware of tax consequences and the effects of early age penalties on the benefit you will receive.
Technicians Update
Yesterday, along with many of you, we saw the article in Aviation Week regarding the awarding of MRO work to AAR in Illinois. To clarify, NO additional work is being contracted out to AAR. This awarding of work is simply work that AAR has historically performed in Miami and which will now be moved to AAR in Illinois.
Technicians Update
Today marks the final day of work for our Benefits Coordinator, Ken Meidinger. After 45 years he’s decided it’s time to retire and spend time with family. He will truly be missed and I’m sure everyone that’s worked with him over the years feels the same way. Ken, best of luck for a long, happy, and healthy retirement!

Letter from Airline Division United Airlines to Congressman DeFazio on UAL Recall Process
As Director of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Airline Division (the "IBT"), which represents thousands of airline workers around the nation in collective bargaining, I am writing first and foremost, to thank you and your colleagues for the tremendous work you did in passing the American Rescue Plan containing critical relief to millions of American workers, including tens of thousands of IBT members represented by the Airline Division. This bill, along with the prior COVID relief bills targeting relief directly to airline workers save thousands of our families from desperate hardship during this unprecedented crisis. I cannot say this enough: Thank You!
UAL Technicians Dispatch Update - March 10, 2021
Due to the many furloughed members returning off the street or transferring back to their home station in early January, those members have yet to receive voting instructions in the mail regarding the Bid area LOA.
Over the last week, some of our Locals throughout the country were inundated with calls requesting voter credentials to participate in the ratification process and some of our members at various stations still have not received voting instructions.

Re: UAL Technicians Dispatch Update #2- UA 328- February 23, 2021
We know that many of you have questions regarding UA 328. The IBT has been granted party status to the investigation and therefore cannot share any of the details. For those of you interested in following the UA328 investigation we are sending you this link to the NTSB investigation page. This link will allow you to get the most up to date information on the investigation. It is a public page and contains information, pictures, and videos that the NTSB has approved for distribution.
UAL Technicians Dispatch Update - COVID Update- February 23, 2021
HRA/RHA VEBA
In the 2016 agreement the Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) and Retiree Health Account (RHA) Plans VEBA trust, 74-2099724, was established (see article 16G). In reviewing the HRA/RHA VEBA Trust, I found that interest was not distributed to the employees from the trust but was held in it. Working with the company and our actuaries we agreed on a methodology to use to distribute these funds. Over the next month you will see adjustments made to your account.
UAL Technicians Dispatch Update - UA 328- February 22, 2021
On Saturday, February 20 United Airlines Flight 328 suffered an uncontained engine failure while departing Denver International Airport (DEN). The aircraft returned to DEN and landed safely, there were no injuries to passengers or crew. This is the third PW 4000 engine failure of this type in recent years and it is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The IBT Airline Division requested and has been granted “Party Status” to the investigation by the NTSB. We have assigned a party coordinator and have members working with the NTSB on the Structures and Powerplant groups.
UAL Technicians Dispatch Update - Update February 17, 2021
After the round of layoffs in October it became clear that members needed an option to return to their respective bid areas if they so choose. There is no contractual provision to allow for this however. The Company after speaking with us, and with many of you, also recognized the problem. As a result, we were able to come to an agreement which resulted in an LOA that will be implemented upon ratification by the membership. The constitution of the IBT requires a ratification on LOAs such as this one that change the terms of the current CBA. Please read the LOA and the associated FAQs. If you agree this change needs to be made, please vote yes. Conversely, if you believe the change should not be made indicate that by voting no.
February Business Agents' Report
We have been waiting for the results of the secondary RIF since the end of November. The secondary RIF includes those that came back from leaves after the original RIF was underway, those that had subsequent FRD corrections and any folks who had an award rescinded for any reason (primarily FRD and A&P License issues). We were informed that some of the individuals who had rescinded awards were subsequently 'recalled' and told to report to a new area. We have taken steps to make sure that those individuals are immediately returned to their original Bid Area and schedule, pending results of this secondary RIF. The reason for this is very simple:
Healthy Airport Ordinance Update
As you're aware, Teamsters Local 856/986 worked with partner unions to pass the Healthy Airport Ordinance last November. The new law requires SFO QSP employers, which includes United Airlines, to provide a platinum-equivalent free family health care plan for employees and their families. The Union has verified through an independent expert that the "Kaiser Plan B" being offered at no cost meets the platinum-equivalent requirement within the ordinance.
